There are very traditional lighting companies, there are very contemporary companies, and there are very playful companies that do kitschy, trendy things. What we provide is a kind of comfortable elegance. The niche we fill is fresh, cleaned-up traditional. We're fashion forward without being trendy. It's a subtle dance for us. I'm very happy to say that I never bought into the whole beaded thing. It was way too busy and over the top – just too drippy for me. It doesn't mean that I like very, very contemporary or modern pieces only, but I do like a clean line. It's about the purity of the bases. The shapes sell themselves. This is what our taste is and what we love to look at.

It's like gauchos or some kind of groovy thing that happened for a month. People want to feel they're spending money on something they could keep for a very long time. They want a lamp that's substantial, that makes a statement in the home but doesn't compete with other things in the room. A lamp should be a definite complement.
